an Eindhoven based creative studio with a strong, distinctive, and straightforward design focus.
REMI VAN OERS design studio, founded by Remi van Oers in 2010 after graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven, is a compact studio focussing on innovative, aesthetic design with thought. Based in the Netherlands, we work on both commissioned and self-initiated hi-end design projects.
Our work
Our work spans multiple disciplines, including: design direction, industrial design, product development, branding, furniture design, architecture, and visualisation. We believe that good design is intuitive, serves people and benefits the user. Without shouting. We strive for simple solutions for often complex problems. We listen and translate requirements into effective answers. We provide a thoughtful and personal service, all with genuine passion.
Our vision
In our design studio we envision design as the expertise to imagine objects, spaces and solutions that do not exist as such, and guide the process that brings them to life.
Design for us is about much more than just how something is supposed to look. In our vision 'good design' has the ability to translate new ideas and inventions into well-thought, useful experiences and tools for people. We aim to create designs that enrich people's lives. The purpose of designing is to increase durability, resulting in sustainability through longevity.
Our studio
We are located in Eindhoven’s cultural hotspot: the Strijp-S area. Worldwide Eindhoven has become one of the most prominent high-tech & design centres. With Brainport, the smartest region in the world 2011, and of course the High-Tech campus, the University of Technology and the Design Academy. Eindhoven is our beloved design city.
By having the studio situated in the renowned former Philips factory named ‘Klokgebouw’ (clock building), it gives us the entrepreneurial spirit rooted in Philips Lighting. Our ‘one room’ approach is translated into an open floorplan studio with 4.5 meter high ceilings and white walls to provide a 'blank canvas' for the exciting new design projects we work on.
Our ‘hybrid studio’ has its own lab for making models and prototypes. Equipped with refined, modern, and basic tools it nurtures our design process.
Our belief
We believe design is about making wonderful products, spaces, services and experiences for people. We take care of the whole process: from concept to the last detail. We care how something works. We care how something is produced. We care that the user enjoys the beauty and functionality of the final design. We care that design changes the world for the better.
About Remi
Remi was born in a village near Eindhoven, in the Netherlands. Completing his bachelor within four years, he graduated from the legendary Design Academy Eindhoven in 2010 with the projects ‘Easy Car Jack’, a design to easily lift a car in case of a flat tire, and ‘Reading Furniture’, a set of furniture providing everything one's reading needs. When he graduated he was nominated for the René Smeets Award, an award for the most professional graduation project. He was also honoured with a Keep an Eye Grant, the award for graduates with high professional career expectations. Directly after graduation in September 2010 Remi started his own design company, which was originally based in his parent’s garage before finally moving to Eindhoven in 2012. His designs were presented at the ‘Salone del Mobile’, the famous design fair in Milan, and the popular ‘Dutch Design Week’ in Eindhoven. Because of his thoughtful and innovative design approach Remi gained the attention of professional firms. He now designs for various companies and also dedicates his time to self-directed projects. Since 2014 Remi occupies an inspiring studio based in the dynamic working environment of the ‘Klokgebouw’ (clock building) at Strijp-S in Eindhoven. Here Remi continues his pursuits and design believes as a creative entrepreneur and innovation driven designer.
A designer friend of Remi describes:
"When we go for a drink or dinner, we obviously talk a lot about design, and Remi will say for instance 'look what we've made or look what we invented'. It’s so funny because if you know him better, you will know he basically designed or solved it almost single-handedly. You know he's been involved from the initial
idea all the way through to overseeing its realisation. He just doesn’t like to take all the credit for it, that’s how enthusiastically polite he is."
Remi's response:
(Laughs) ‘’No, I just don’t believe you get these results all by yourself. You need good teamwork to gain true success. You need the full belief from and support of your partners. And yeah, I just don't like to say 'I' all the time.’’
